Brief: Create a project and user experience that exploits and utilises data to drive, transform and format it. This may include live or a live, collated or archived data, including external data via RSS or similar feeds, or it might utilise data generated or created by the device, particularly if it is a native app eg: date, time, location, orientation, motion, media capture etc. Or it might utilise data generated by the user.
Solution: In 2018 I produced the Facebook Filter browser extension, an interactive artwork, which you can install in your web browser, that shows you a filtered version of your Facebook feed. In an attempt to highlight Facebook’s business model, Facebook Filter pixelates images on your Facebook news feed based on the percentage increase or decrease in their stock market value. You see less user generated content from your friends and family and more advertisements when Facebook is losing money.
