Brief: The Impossible Interface Design a mobile and desktop interface for an imaginary or impossible service. Design a portrait mobile version and a larger screen landscape version. Your designs should be accompanied by sketches, research, design ideas and tests.
Solution: In 2016 I developed the concept of producing an impossible app interface design for communicating with animals through a smartphone accompanied by a desktop website interface. I took inspiration from my childhood, specifically my love for the film Dr Doolittle. I used to dream about what it would be like to be able to talk to animals. Another source of inspiration for the name and brand identity came from the book ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ by Douglas Adams, specifically, a curious fictional yellow sea creature called the ‘Babel Fish’. By putting the ‘Babel Fish’ into your ear you can instantly understand anything said in any language because it removes all barriers to communication.
